Davis, California, MARKETING SPEC 3 (Marketing Communications Specialist) Department Description The Center for Neuroscience conducts research in the areas of molecular, cellular, systems, cognitive, and computational neuroscience and trains post-docs, graduate and undergraduate students in neuroscience and related fields. The Center consists of a faculty director, approximately 25 faculty and 100 laboratory academic and staff positions that are housed at the Center, and approximately 85 affiliated faculty from across the Davis and Sacramento campuses. The Center is comprised of faculty and other scientists from the College of Biological Sciences, School of Medicine, College of Letters and Science, the College of Engineering, and the School of Veterinary Medicine. The Center’s annual expenditures exceed $12 million. Total funding (including multi-year research grants) is approximately $95M. The Center is located in 35,000 sq. ft. in 4 separate buildings. Facilities include faculty research laboratories, and neuro-imaging and MRI facilities. Job Summary Under general supervision, develops and implements strategic, integrated marketing communications plans to promote CNS programs and services while ensuring consistency and UC Davis brand continuity. Areas of work include strategic communications, branding, social media strategy, website content & graphic design, and donor and stakeholder engagement. This is not a H1-B opportunity. WORK ENVIRONMENT Work occasional weekends, evenings and holidays, sometimes on short notice, to meet operational needs. QUALIFICATIONS Required : -Excellent writing experience and skills demonstrating keen story-telling that crosses print, website, video, photography, social media and emotionally appeals to target audiences -Project management experience using problem-solving and organizational skills to effectively monitor and manage multiple projects or large-scale projects with multiple, overlapping deadlines and tasks. -Experience in developing and implementing integrated marketing campaigns and branding strategies. -Experience and ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail while working on multiple projects and deadlines -Experience working in a diverse communications environment that includes print and digital media, and written and interactive content intended to reach and engage community, stakeholders, clients. -Experience with developing and implementing social media strategic plans and with audience development and engagement using a variety of social media platforms. -Experience using writing, editing and proofreading skills to use language accurately and creatively; recognize and use correct English grammar; spell and punctuate correctly; proofreading skills and quality control methods. -Experience using graphic design software such as Adobe InDesign, Photoshop or other desktop publishing applications to create brochures, flyers, posters or other materials Preferred : -Understanding of fundraising and development and its role in the advancement of a public university to effectively produce marketing and communications for the appropriate target audiences. -Experience with outreach to a specific audience to foster relationships and increase knowledge of that audience.
